At 10:30 am, December 26, 2012, Wang Yang (member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of Guangdong Provincial Party Committee), and Sheng Guangzu (Minister of the Ministry of Railways) were announcing together at Shenzhen North Station the completion and opening to traffic of the Section Guangzhou-Shenzhen of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hongkong High Speed Rail Link after a seven-year construction period.
The Section Guangzhou-Shenzhen of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hongkong High Speed Rail Link designed by SIYUAN starts from Guangzhou South Station, through Qingsheng Station, Humen Station, and Guangmingcheng Station, and ends at Shenzhen North Station. It has full length of 102km, with max. speed of up to 300km/h during operation at initial stage.
Since initial research started in 2001, SIYUAN has been fighting for Guangzhou- Shenzhen- Hongkong High Speed Rail Link for over 10 years. Owing to the key difficult works such as Shiziyang Tunnel —— the first underwater railway tunnel in China, and Shenzhen Futian Railway Station —— the first underground railway station, the construction of the railway line is described as “a test paper full of difficult questions”
Over the past 10 years, with implementation of those key difficult works, SIYUAN has stepped up to a new high in terms of its design technologies such as the technologies of comprehensive route selection in economically developed area, technologies as well as bridge design, comprehensive design technologies of long-large underwater tunnel shield for high speed railway, integrated design technologies of large-scale underground station in urban center, planning and design of modern comprehensive transportation and large-scale comprehensive transportation hub, etc.. It takes 40 minutes to run through Guangzhou, Dongguan, and Shenzhen. In future, the Shenzhen-Guangzhou section will connect HongKong to the mainland rapid rail network. At that time, it will take only 50 minutes from Hongkong to Guangzhou by train, and 10 hours to Beijing. As an important part of the “Beijing-Guangzhou-Hongkong” high speed railway line in the “four transverse four longitudinal ” fast passenger traffic skeleton railway network as described in the , the opening to traffic of section Guangzhou-Shenzhen can better satisfy the demand of increasing passenger flows between Guangzhou and Shenzhen; after the completion and opening to traffic of the whole line in future, a rapid railway line connecting Hongkong, Shenzhen and Guangzhou will be ready to link up with the rapid rail network in the Pearl River Delta. It will be of great significance for enhancing the economic cooperation and personnel exchanged as well as promoting common prosperity among Guangzhou, Dongguan, Shenzhen, Hongkong, and the Pearl River Delta.
